Depending on how you interpret time, I’ve been working in the creative industries for over 7 years or during the last two decades.
I've specialised in visual design during my career but also have experience in writing copy, UX,
service design & strategy. I’m an aesthete but I’m a pragmatist too.
The most useful things I’ve inherited from my parents are the ability to listen and the ability to find anything interesting. I think there is a link between the two.
That being said, my dream clients would be:
a) A political campaign
b) A record label specialising in difficult music
c) Speculative work on the future of beer
I work in digitial and I’m most interested in doing work that enables people to imagine new versions of the future and to do things in the real world.
AUGUST 2017 – PRESENT
Hyper Island has been described as ‘Digital Harvard’ – a creative business school that puts team and learning by doing at the center of everything.
I came to Hyper Island to level up and try to accelerate the next phase of my career and discovered there’s an even bigger world out there which is just as interesting as the one I inhabited before. During my time here I’ve explored futurism, service design, experience design, strategy for branding, ideation and prototyping techniques, team development and dynamics, leadership, followership, how to talk like a giraffe (not like a jackal) and a whole load more.
FEBRUARY 2016 – JULY 2017
Arriving in February as a freelancer to assist on a pitch, I joined TH_NK permanently in March. During my time I worked on creating end-to-end, animated prototypes for Vue Cinemas’ new app as well as design for responsive web components, interactive kioks, and lab-based user research.
I was the visual design lead on the re-design of the web presence for Arup – one of the world’s leading engineering and architecture firms. I worked in parallel with the UX and development teams to deliver functionality and editorial design across the site. After that came the slightly less glamorous assignment of redesigning LHH.com, under tight time and client constraints.
In addition I was also involved in creating interactive prototypes for pitches & a beautiful pop-up (window, not event) for John Le Carré.
JANUARY 2016 – PRESENT
KALLIDA is an independent, boutique music festival held at Baskerville Hall in Clyro, Wales. As art director for the festival, I have been responsible for developing the branding and all visual design output. You should get a ticket.
AUGUST 2013 – DECEMBER 2015
A 3 month contract that got really out of control, I initially joined to help design Honda’s sprawling product catalogue. Starting with motorbikes I moved on to lawn and garden equipment, marine engines, snowthrowers, generators and water pumps, before looping back to the beginning and overhauling the car pages too. That was the first six months.
After that, I worked on interactive campaigns for key product launches, helped shaped the stories for long-form editorial content, designed and scoped fully responsive components from site navigation to calendars, helped on configurator prototyping, reviewed work, briefed in developers, copywriters and designers, presented to clients, made some category-defining leaving cards and a load of other things.Though officially my title was designer, on the good days I think I was an art director, on the bad days I was a lawnmower-cutter-outer and on the best days I just had a really great time and learnt a huge amount from a large group of people across all the disciplines.
In 2015, the Honda platform was awarded gold at the Digital Impact Awards, silver at the W3 Awards, bronze at the Web Awards and was shortlisted for two Drum DADIs.
SEPTEMBER 2012 – PRESENT
My contribution to the Olympic legacy, Adam Hunt Ltd was founded in September 2012 offering any form of design, copywriting and web development that people are willing to pay for.
Design and assisting art direction for a comprehensive online re-brand. Producing all design collateral for relaunch as part of a team. Hit the deadline which was a miracle.
Lead designer on day to day work. Responsible for completion of 55+ projects between September and April including majority of eCRM activity (design and wire-frame). Responsible for signingoff the work of juniors/other freelancers. Improved SEO and bounce rates by working with planning department to make the most of CMS limitations. Made a dramatic Paul Scholes-like comeback to crank out 150 typographic banners in a week and a couple of pages about fair trade for the wine team in July 2013.
Print design for annual research report on users for the service. Pro bono.
JULY 2011 – AUGUST 2012
Working across eCRM, social, digital platforms and occasionally print. Took on a variety of projects involving opportunities for concept creation, storyboarding, planning and research, internal presenting and overseeing other juniors and signing off work. Was also responsible for design of internal and B2B comms. Loved and loathed office DJ depending who you ask.
JULY 2011 – AUGUST 2012
Further developed my experience working within the creative department of this constantly growing digital marketing agency. Day to day duties involved working on eCRM campaigns (copy & design), producing assets for online and working on internal communications projects. Also had the opportunity to work on two successful pitches for John Lewis Fashion and the Whitbread Restaurant Group. I was responsible for designing the pitch presentations and leave-behind documents.
SEPTEMBER 2007 – AUGUST 2008
Originally signed up for 3 months to help as office manager in the run-up to Christmas. Was asked to stay on after this period and began to gain experience with the copy and design team, resource planning as well as working as office manager.
Opening premises, acting as PA tocompany directors, keeping the office fully stocked, arranging travel and organizing team events.
Acted as a runner assisting the creative director and film crew on a variety of shoots (on location and green screen). Responsible for location sourcing and liaison, itinerary creation and travel arrangements and looking after talent and crew.
After demonstrating some design aptitude was given the opportunity to contribute to the creative team, helping produce assets for site relaunches and beginning to write copy for Morrisons online presence.
Having gained a place to study English Lit in 2007, I deferred entry and changed course after work experience in a digital marketing agency.
